How do I put my E90 M3 with DCT into neutral without starting or with a dead battery to be towed?

The BMW E90 M3 with DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) has a specific procedure for putting the car into neutral when the engine is not running or in the case of a dead battery. Here are the general steps:

Ensure the Key is Inserted:

Make sure the key is inserted into the ignition.

Apply the Brake:

Press and hold the brake pedal. This is a safety feature to prevent the car from being shifted into neutral accidentally.

Remove the Shift boot:

With caution, take off the shift boot. Usually, you can just reach in with your fingers on the upper right corner. There’s a small black cover there that you must flip up.

Shift to Neutral:

Utilizing the factory screwdriver located at the back of the vehicle, simply enter it into the small white component. It may encounter some resistance when pulled back, but doing so manually shifts the vehicle into neutral.

Release the Brake:

Once the car is in neutral, you can release the brake pedal.

Towing:

The car is now in neutral and can be towed.
