A common issue on N54, N55, and S55 engines is the event of the timing belt being sucked into the crank hub area and causing serious damage. We have seen a number of these cars come through our shop in various stages of this problem occurring, from shredded belts, to blown up engines.

This failure occurs when the timing belt gets sucked into the crank hub area where it can then enter your engine and alter the timing of the engine. When this happens, the belt typically falls apart and can clog the engine oil pickup and starve the engine of oil. If the engine becomes starved of oil and remains running, serious engine damage can and will occur.Seal Failure

VAC Motorsports created a product specifically designed to eliminate the risk of this happening and to provide peace-of-mind for N54, N54, and S55 owners. It is essentially a preventative cover that can be placed over the crank seal so that the timing belt cannot be sucked in the crank hub area.

We have found this product to be a great addition to any N54 or N55 BMW as a preventative maintenance item so that this does not happen, or, a great addition to include on your car when performing a Timing Belt That Has Been Sucked into the Engine.
