Why does my BMW keep overheating?

If you have BMW and your car overheats, here are the top 4 reasons that can cause BMW to overheat.

Trying to find out the reason why your BMW overheats is stressful. But we have narrowed down the four common reasons why your BMW experiences overheating.

Here at Oceanside Motorsports, we have BMW experts that can assess why your BMW is overheating and we can find out what’s wrong with our diagnostic testing to ensure you’re only spending money on what needs to be fixed.

  1. Always check your thermostat to make sure it operates properly

The thermostat is in charge of controlling the engine's coolant flow. It remains closed if the engine is cold to allow it to warm up. The thermostat gradually opens as the engine warms up, allowing coolant to enter the radiator. The engine overheats once it starts to malfunction, and if the issue is not fixed, it can eventually boil over. BMW may also overheat if the thermostat is stuck closed or open.

  1. Check if your coolant is leaking

Engine overheating is frequently caused by coolant leaks. Any number of diseases can result in a destructive leak because of the coolant system's complexity and significance. This causes severe damage to the BMW engine.

  1. Check and test the water pump to make sure it is properly functioning

The purpose of water pumps isn't to last the entire life of the car. Either the bearings or the plastic blades are the mechanical belt-driven water pumps' primary points of failure. The factory-installed plastic blades on OEM BMW impellers are made of plastic. This plastic heats up and cools down repeatedly before becoming brittle and breaking over time. Your engine will overheat if your impeller blades are broken because they will stop the coolant from cycling through the engine. The pump's ball bearings are also vulnerable to failure after prolonged operation.

  1. Always check the radiator fan if it is working properly

Your engine may overheat if the radiator fan is broken or not functioning. When moving slowly, this is especially true. You should promptly but safely pull over to the side of the road if you notice overheating. Cut the engine off. Any continued use of your car while experiencing this issue could seriously harm the engine. As a result, there can be a need for costly repairs or a whole engine replacement.
