What Do BMW Thrust Arm Bushings Do?

BMW Thrust Arm Bushings are responsible for dampening most of the back-and-forth movement of the front wheels of your BMW and provide stability when braking. When they wear out, they can make clunking sounds as you hit the brakes and can also cause a vibration. The bushings contain oil-filled rubber mounts that over time can weaken and crack, resulting in a sloppy quality or steering wheel vibration while going over bumps. If you’re curious whether your Thrust Arm Bushings are bad, have someone stand outside of the car (at a safe distance) and hit the brakes to decelerate. When thrust arm bushings go bad, you can visibly see that the wheel will move forward or backward instead of remaining stable while coming to a stop

Fluid services and why they are important

Oil service – This is not just a drain and refill, this is our chance to go over the vehicle that has been on the road for the past six months. In that amount of time there are a lot of things that can arise without any warning at all. Identifying with the possible failures before they occur is much less costly and avoids surprises, for example, engine damage due to overheating, tow trucks and the inconvenience of having the vehicle control your day. On top off verifying your vehicle is safe to drive we service it with the best products available from the fully synthetic european engine oil and original equipment oil filter we install. The engine oil is one of the most important fluids in your vehicle which is why we put in the best oil. The Europeans have a much higher standard for oil than the states do which is why we use it. Not only does the oil eliminate a lot of consumption concerns we see, it also does not break down as fast providing better lub ... read more

Diagnosis and why it is important

When your check engine light comes on, usually the first thought is “oh great, now what?” If the vehicle is still driving the same usually the light is ignored until it is necessary to have repaired, for example, a smog test needed for registration purposes which will be failed if the check engine light is on. Here at Oceanside Motorsports we offer a complimentary fault code scan of the engine control module. With this complimentary service we will be able to inform you of the faults stored and the recommended course of action. For most of the faults stored a diagnosis is recommended. I know what you are thinking, “you already scanned the light and received fault codes.” The faults stored are simply a general guide as to which system is being affected. For example, fault p0301cylinder number one misfire, this relates to incomplete combustion, usually accompanied by a rough running condition. There are many components that could be causing this problem. Do ... read more

BMW Art Cars- Robin Rhodes

BMW Art Cars- Robin Rhodes

Two weeks ago, we introduced two of BMW’s first Art Cars. Artists Frank Stella and Alexander Stella created unique body paint designs for their BMW CSL 3.0’s, which proved to be a hell of a car to beat in a European race. Let’s flash forward a few decades since then. In 2009, Robin Rhode of South Africa was tapped to design the Z4 roadster. But the commission hadn’t just chosen another painter. Rhode’s background instead is in performance art. And his design proved to be just as game-changing as the PR campaign that BMW used to promote it. From Rhode’s performance piece “He’s Got Game.” And rather than painting on the roadster, Rhode used the car as his brush. Using Gerhard Richter´s series of paintings ‘Red, Yellow, Blue’, and optic animations and German expressionist film as inspiration, from atop a 30’ tower overlooking a studio space in Los Angeles, Rhode remote-controlled two nozz ... read more

BMW Art Cars- Beginnings, Alexander Calder & Frank Stella

BMW Art Cars- Beginnings, Alexander Calder & Frank Stella

Remember when “The Hire” went viral back in 2002 when folks were still calling it “the web”? Those eight viral videos produced by BMW featuring Clive Owen, with cinematic giants John Woo, Tony Scott, Frankenheimer and Wong Kar-Wai at the helm. I thought it would set by128kb modem on fire. Here’s a refresher… BMW has a lasting tradition of incorporating business with the arts going back to 1975 when the Bavarian automaker produced it’s first “art car.” In a series of posts of the next few weeks, we’re going to feature some of these cars at the intersection of innovation and BMW’s evolving cross-branding strategy meets Today, the Art Car is a public relations effort for BMW to distinguish itself in a crowded market during tough economic times. In the first decade though, art cars, including contributions by Lichtenstein, Warhol and Rauschenberg weren’t meant for any kind of long-last media campaign. We’ll disc ... read more
